Call out rota

Until the end of March 2010 we will continue to share the NABIS weekend cover between the Northern Hub in Manchester and the Central Hub in Birmingham. Each Hub will continue to maintain its own cover Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays.


CALL OUT PROCEEDURES FOR NORTHERN HUB.

NABIS Ballistic Experts and Technicians are available on call between 0600hrs and 1800hrs on Saturdays and Sundays and nominated Bank Holidays. The GMP FSB Manager will check the details of the requesting force and ensure that it meets with the criteria for turning out on call ballistic staff.

The criteria are;

a) Is it in response to a new incident (within the previous 5 days) where a firearm has been discharged resulting in a fatal injury to any person or where there is a suspected link to terrorism.

or

b) Is it in response to a new incident (within the previous 5 days) where a firearm has been discharged resulting in injury to any person or where there has been no injury but the shooting constituted a major risk to the public.

If there is a need for any DNA or Fingerprint work to be done then this must have been completed BEFORE submission to the Northern Hub as they are not able to offer those services at the present time

Once the GMP FSB manager has assessed the request, he/she will contact the on call ballistic staff to service the request and they will make contact with the requesting force.


CALL OUT PROCEEDURES FOR CENTRAL HUB BIRMINGHAM

Forces should call the West Midlands Police Force Control Room

The requesting force should ask to be put in touch with the on call Duty Detective Superintendent and provide their contact number. The Duty Detective Superintendent will be given that contact number by the Force Control Room.
He/she will contact the requesting force and establish if either of the criteria set out at a) or b) above are met. If so, they will pass the caller’s details to the Central Hub on call Ballistic Expert between 0600hrs and 1800hrs who will then contact the caller and make suitable arrangements.
DNA and Fingerprints can be done by WMP Forensic Services Unit but there is an extra cost which is NOT part of the NaBIS service.
