CALL OUT PROCEDURES FOR NORTHERN HUB
Forces should call the Duty Forensic Services Manager via the GMP pager on
07699 115000 pager number 66661.
NABIS Ballistic Experts and Technicians are available on call between 0600hrs and 1800hrs on weekends and nominated Bank Holidays.The GMP FSB Manager will check the request from the relevant force and he/she will ensure that it meets with the criteria for turning out on call ballistic staff.
The criteria are;
a) Is it in response to a new incident (within the previous 5 days) where a firearm has been discharged resulting in a fatal injury to any person or where there is a suspected link to terrorism?
OR
b) Is it in response to a new incident (within the previous 5 days) where a firearm has been discharged resulting in injury to any person or, where there has been no injury but the shooting constituted a major risk to the public?
If there is a need for any DNA or fingerprint work to be done on any of the proposed submissions then this must have been completed BEFORE submission to the Northern Hub as they are not able to offer those services at the present time.
Once the Duty GMP FSB Manager has assessed the request, he/she will contact the on call ballistic staff to service the request.The on call staff will make contact with the requesting force in order to provide a quality service.
CALL OUT PROCEDURES FOR CENTRAL HUB IN BIRMINGHAM
Forces should call the West Midlands Police Force Control Room on 0121 626 1287 external or 7822 5050 internal these are discreet numbers and are for police use only.
The requesting force should ask to be put in touch with the on call Duty Detective Superintendent and they should provide their contact number.The Duty Detective Superintendent will be given that contact number by the Force Control Room. He/she will contact the requesting force and establish if either of the criteria set out at a) and b) above are met.
If either are met the caller`s details will be passed by the Duty Detective Superintendent to the Central Hub on call Ballistic Expert between 0600hrs and 1800hrs who will contact the requesting force and make suitable arrangement to provide a quality service.
DNA and fingerprint work can be done by West Midlands Police Forensic Services Unit but there is an extra cost for non WMP forces which is not part of the NABIS service.
