In light of the current situation we felt we should reassure our communities and law enforcement partners that we are still operational.
We continue to work closely with police forces to prevent and detect gun crime and offer vital intelligence packages to colleagues across the UK.
Our ballistic experts based in Birmingham and Manchester are taking measures to be able to continue to process items which arrive at our labs daily; albeit there are bound to be some staff abstractions.
We have taken the decision to suspend our Force Liaison Officer visits for the time being so our staff limit any face to face contact they may have. This is to keep our staff and others safe during these challenging times. We remain intouch with partners to offer any assistance or advice they may require.
Head of NABIS, Detective Chief Superintendent Jo Clews, said: "This is an unprecedented challenge and nobody knows how long the situation may continue. However we are striving to provide a good service to our communities, police forces and other partners such as Border Force and the NCA (National Crime Agency).
"Gun crime incidents continue to occur and we offer vital assistance to those who are trying to find the offenders and bring them to justice."
