Crime, Policing and Fire Minister Visits NABIS

Kit Malthouse, Minister of State for Crime, Policing and the Fire Service, visited our central hub in Birmingham yesterday (March 12th). He met our team of experts and viewed our state of the art facilities which help police forces across the UK tackle gun crime. 

NABIS Head of Unit, Detective Chief Superintendent Jo Clews, welcomed the Minister yesterday afternoon and explained the vital work which NABIS does to prevent and detect offences. We have ballistics labs in both Birmingham and Manchester and our staff examine items from crime scenes. This may be a whole firearm or just a fragment of ammunition. 

We also have firing ranges in both locations which allows NABIS experts to test fire weapons which have been submitted by police forces. 

NABIS has been operational for more than a decade and also works closely with European partners to tackle gun crime threat and risk, as well as UK law enforcement organisations such as the National Crime Agency and Border Force.
